Supreme Court of India calls for a relook at tribunalisation

The Supreme Court of India has called for a relook at the way tribunals function in India.

Besides commenting upon the method of appointments in tribunals, the apex court has also questioned the system of providing direct appeals from tribunals to the Supreme Court thereby denying access to justice at the High Courts of States to litigants and also clogging the dockets of the highest Court of the land with routine matters.

A similar question regarding the bypassing of jurisdiction of the High Court from the orders of the Armed Forces Tribunal has already been referred to a larger bench of the Supreme Court where it is pending.

More can be read about the case through this report in The Indian Express.
